I'm under the impression that this place has already had it's hay day. It's alright, but it's not 'hot-damn!" impressive. I'm spoiled, I'm use to pretty good asian cuisine, great italian, awesome shwarmas, and kick ass burritos; all within a 3 block radius. I have yet to have found REAL GOOD Chinese food in Miami. The all you can drink beer they advertise is only offered with Miller Lite. Big let down. I would go there again, but I know what to expect next time around.

Living on SOBE I thought I'd try all the Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately despite the hilarious Wayne's world name reference (creme of sum yum gai) there's nothing much to this restaurant. The chicken I ordered was over seasoned and tough with a chewy/over cooked texture. I had heard good word of mouth reviews from other locals who swear by Sum Yum Gai, but I was unfortunately dissappointed..

We ordered the Crab Rangoon, Wonton Soup, the Honey garlic chicken, and order of vegetable lo mein and lastly the special fried rice. Overall, the food was fresh and very tasty; it was also a lot of food. We had enough to feed another person and left overs. Everything including delivery and tip was $45. We will definitely be ordering from here again.

So good Chinese is hard to find on the beach. Sum Yum Gai is OK in a pinch. It is convenient and they do deliver. I have tried several items from here. I am a big fan of General Tso's Chicken (sometimes under a different name). STA AWAY FROM IT HERE! It is horrible! If you are going to dine here try the Pork Lo Mein. It is tasty and filling. Their Crab Rangoon are pretty good as well.

By now, it's a cliche that there's no really good Chinese food in Miami/Miami Beach. The Tropical is good, but a)it's not at all convenient if you live on the Beach or Downtown Brickell, and b)it's not old-school, Americanized Chinese food that many people grew up on. So, yeah, I'm an ex-NYer, and Jewish, which means I figure I know a thing or two about good Chinese food. And this joint ain't it. At all. While the food is utterly mediocre on a good day, the most significant issue to consider is that this place is a pig sty. The furniture is old and dusty/crusty. The walls, which at one time aspired to a kind of faux distressed vibe, are now just disgusting. Filthy, paint peeling, awful The ceiling, particularly by the door, resembles a bombed-out Iranian hovel, with exposed wired, torn wall board, what resembles asbestos hanging loosely from above. I felt like I needed a Hazmat de-lousing when I left this place. It was absolutely disgusting. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Did I mention, avoid?

If I could give zero stars I would. My boyfriend wanted Chinese food on South Beach though this had mixed reviews I said let's give it a try. When I first came in there were workers lounging in the sitting area shoes off and everything. The menus were older than ancient. My thought was to leave immediately but he really wanted Chinese food. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I ordered the most basic food that could be made chicken friend rice and he ordered beef fried rice. Portions of my chicken fried rice was hot and others were cold. My assumption it's not fresh at all they freeze and and warm it up to serve. When I left there I was so sick to my stomach. I had to take milk of magnesia to relax my tummy. Avoid at all costs. Then the waitress had the nerve to add a service fee lol

With a name like this how could 2 girls resist? Lol. After a long day at the beach and before getting ready to get our night started, we stopped into this place which was conveniently across the street from The Clay Hotel, where we were staying. It's not NYC chino's. Definitely a little pricier. They're fast. The service is always the same at chinese spots, so not much to say lol. The food was good. I had the honey garlic wings and the pork fried rice. I shared with a friend and we still had food left over. Those were bomb though. They were big too. Not bad at all and don't have anything bad to say.

A small place in the middle of the beach. Service as in most Chinese places is kinda cold but tolerable. The food was ok, nothing to go crazy about. I might give them another chance but then again I might not ;)

A 3 star review for Chinese spots on the beach is basically the equivalent of a 5 star review somewhere else. I'll add to the redundancy on the subject ---there are basically no fantastic Chinese food spots on the Beach. Honestly between that and the fact that there are no Trader Joe's in walking distance, I almost didn't move here. The joint was pretty busy with one server working. When he came to us, the first thing he did was apologize for the wait--so unusual to get such an acknowledgment and I appreciated it. My Mikie is trying to go healthy lately--never hurts, eh? So we ordered 3 veggie dishes and I helped him understand the virtues of ordering sauce on the side. Everything arrived looking fresh and delicious and just right. If you follow me, you know I'm picky. And that broccoli is my favorite food. My dish was just as I requested and the broccoli was perfect and fantastic. I requested that the fried rice be prepared with as little oil as possible--it was perfect. Mikie ordered Buddha Delight and it was really delicious. The veggies were plentiful, more than most places around here. I had just seen Marky Mark in The Gambler, so I was in a good mood-the delicious meal was a great capper. The one caveat is that gratuity is included. We didn't see that posted anywhere and only learned that when we were confused about our bill total. So be aware of that. Give SYG a whirl.

This place has a cute ambience. You feel like you've entered somewhere completely out of South Beach when you go inside - which can be cool if you're that type of person. The people there are nice and the food was pretty decent. If you're looking to have Americanized Chinese food, this place is perfect. The szechuan chicken wings are delicious!

First off, the name is absolutely amazing! Sounds a lot like.... and old joke. But that aside, we tried to order delivery tonight and the man on the phone was beyond rude, short, and said "of course we cannot make that spicy, regarding general tsao chicken, they were out of wontons, string beans, and snow peas." He didnt appreciate being asked for clarification on that. Enough said. Next time, try being a little more kind and imaginative on the phone like when you came up with your catchy name. Customer service counts these days. #fail

"Cream of Sum Yum Gai" So I entered because the name made me think of Waynes World and I laughed and smiled. I really didn't expect much after a good chuckle, but I'm happy I let my humor guide my hunger because this place was great. Out of all of the chinese places I have been in my life this one had a completely different vybe... probably because it is on south beach but it captured a great character. The dumplings were fresh and delicous, actually everything seemed reeeally fresh which was nice because some chinese food is so heavily spiced that it is hard to tell. But this was the bomb diggity, lightly spiced with just the right amount of sweet and savory flavors that make my mouth water when I think of boneless spare ribs and such. seems like it has been around for awhile so I hope it remains constant until i can afford to take a trip to friggin south beach again. I will return -Fu D.

Stopped by on my trip to Miami. Found the name to be witty, so we decided to give it a try. The food was delicious. We had their spring rolls and salt and pepper chicken and lo mein. Everything was perfectly flavored and seasoned. Would definitely recommend and return to when I am in town.

Staying down at Miami Beach so we decided to order some take out... and SUM YUM GAI popped up. We ordered delivery: Crab Ragoon Spring Roll ( which was free since we ordered online) Salt & Pepper Calamari Mongolian Beef with white rice Tri-Mushroom (chicken with 3 different mushrooms) The spring rolls, the crab ragoon and the calamari was the only food that was good. The calamari came with a twist which I liked and never had before, under it was peppers and onions. The Mongolian beef was drowning in the sauce which was bland, the tri-mushroom was the same. We didn't take more than 3 bites of those dishes. Service though was fantastic!

2 and 1/2 stars? Are y'all kidding. This is the best quick Chinese spot on the beach. The food is exactly what you expect, Service is fast and efficient, and their drivers have credit card machines! Very convenient for the locals. Try the Chong's chicken or the Rangoon.

Wow! Yellow rice for Chinese food! This food was horrible barely edible We ordered delivery it came extremely fast service was absolutely amazing however the food was disgusting! I took my neighbors recommendation to order from there and this was the last time I was asking for referral. We ordered something with shrimp in it and it came like shredded shoelaces and dryer than tree bark. The wonton soup was like eating rubber, and the free dumplings they give you were not even cook

  • Ayla S.

The spring rolls and hot and sour soup were sooo good. Best on the beach! I also love to order their special fried rice and ask for it dark for more flavor. Lomain, Mongolian beef extra spicy, and salt and pepper shrimp are all great. Great prices for there dinner specials with enough food to eat off of just one special for 2- 3 days, that by the next day your sick of Chinese food. Lol. Yummmmm..

The only reason we went inside this restaurant was because we thought they were giving away free food. Check out the attached picture. (j/k) Their food menu was okay. However, I cannot recall what item in particular stands out. Maybe because they have flavors adapted for locals here. Anyhoo, check it out if you are desperate for some Chinese food.

Save your money. I think I prefer the Chinese food at Publix over this joint. We ordered the spring rolls, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour shrimp, and won ton soup. The dishes came with fried rice, which in its yellowish form barely resembled fried rice Sadly, nothing was good. The food had no flavor and tasted stale. I will not go back and continue to search for quality Chinese food in South Beach.

How can anyone give this place more than one star? Wow this food is HORRIFIC. General Tso's chicken-fried chicken tenders in a sauce that tasted like it came from a jar at the grocery store.... Right...and then fried rice that is YELLOW (since is has saffron in it) WOW amateur hour on these reviews folks...AVOID AT ALL COSTS

work a couple blocks away always walk past the restuarant food was ehh okay but i ordered a delivery out to my job and they took kinda longer than they said they would so i didnt tip the driver with that said the guy went into a hispanic rant thinking i didnt understand what he said " hija de puta come mierda'' like really im sorry but for that disrespecful attitude because of his missing tip i shouldnt even have paid for the food that was an hour late stupid drivers like that mess with resturants reputaitions

Used to be good years ago. Now staff is rude and try to rip you off. One example is look at your bill. It's written in some chicken scratch so you don't know the price. But it already includes gratuity. But your credit card slip will show no gratuity on it. Another example the food used to lightly breaded. But now they cut down on the meat a bunch and heavily bread it to make up for girth.

Food is ok. One day it's great and the next day it is just ok. They lack consistency. Not the best Chinese food on South Beach.

It was hot as eff few years back in my hotel on my week long vacation in miami and i didnt want to go out during the day, so i found this menu from the lobby and it was a funny looking character with the funny take out name, delivery was pretty fast, and food was as good as the next, but portions wasnt as much.....i am used to the large portions up north in jersey lol

We ordered from here on Christmas Day, traditionally a very busy day for Chinese food. It still got here within the window they gave us, and the food was really good. We ordered the sesame chicken and the beef and broccoli, as well as the wontons and some fried rice. The sesame chicken was great - mostly chicken (instead of that mostly batter chicken you get at other places) and well spiced sauce. The beef and broccoli was also good. The broccoli was cooked well, and still had a crunch to it. Their spring rolls are really great as well. I didn't love the wontons, but they weren't terrible either. This will now be my go-to Chinese place.

Fighting furiously for the crown of worst Chinese food in SoBe - (or maybe the world?) - we find SYG !! "Could I have some more grease on my Kung Pao Chicken please ? How about an extra handful of starch??" Ordered a coupe items last night including the now infamous KPC above and.... can anyone say "Gloopy-Shlop Oil Fest" ?? Disgusting all the way around - these people need someone like Gordon Ramsey to literally hit them over the head with a iron Wok. Simply Horrendous - cannot imagine how this place stays in business. Wouldn't feed this stuff to my dogs. Sorry to be so harsh - but the lack of a decent Chinese restaurant in SoBe is a mystery to me as big as how a place like this and a couple of the other Chinese "JEWELS" I have reviewed here on Yelp can stay in business - and it all just pisses me off !

As fun as their name is to say... The food is not very good. We had delivery and it arrived hot but that along with the white rice were the only good things about the meal. The noodles were so thick and gummy they were one big lump. The orange chicken, ordered spicy had barely any flavor and definitely no heat. The rice with veggies was dry. Another chicken I think general tsao was just not good either. Very expensive sad experience.

Worth ordering the options you don't encounter outside places like San Francisco or Nee York.

Tried this place because it's next to Macs Club Duece, a bar I frequent and I have to say food was no more than par and a bit over priced. I had the sweet and sour chicken combination and my girlfriend had general chong chicken combination. Both were $11.95. The combination comes with just fried rice your choice of soup and spring roll. If you want pork, chicken, or special fried rice it's $2.50-$2.75 more. The wonton soup was great. The rice was ok and my chicken was ok. My girlfriends chicken seemed a bit dry to me but she said it was ok. The sause was ok. Dinner for the two of us came out to be $42. 15% Gratuity was included. Would not recommend restaurant for that kind of money.

First time visiting this spot on a recent vacation to south beach. My girls and i were starvingggg and didn't feel like walking all the way to the strip to get some food so we decided to try this Chinese spot since it was right across the street from our hotel. I was bit hesitant at first because as we walked in, the place didn't scream fancy or anything and it was all new to me but i decided to give it a try any and i'm sooo glad i did. One of my friends ordered the dumplings which were sooooo good and flavorful. I ordered the general chong's chicken which was amazingggg ! i loved it so much i ordered it again our second trip before leaving. It was spicy (same as general tso's chicken if you're more familiar with that name) but i love spicy food so that didn't bother me. It was also very filling, they give big portions on the chicken which i couldn't even finish in one sitting. Service was good also, they were very polite and quick with our food. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for great food on a budget.

I have seen this place for years, for some reason I never bothered to check out the place. I believe it is the only Chinese restaurant on Washington blvd south of Espanola way and north of 5th street. I was kind of excited to finally try it out being that I love Mandarin Chinese food, though this place was a Cantonese restaurant. Boy was I disappointed, the food at this place is bland tasteless food. The food tasted like non-seasoned tofu, it did not matter what I ordered, everything I ordered had basically no taste from the vegetable low mien to the spring rolls etc.

We were in a hotel on vacation in Miami Beach. This was the only Chinese delviery open at 10:30 PM. The food was good. Spice level was good, because we wanted spicy. The hot and sour soup was really good. The chicken and black bean sauce, and the chicken fried rice were great.

Decent Customer Service! But, the Sesame Chicken was the WORST i've had!!!!!! The Egg Drop Soup & Egg Rolls were good, but I was disappointed in the Seasame Chicken!!!!! It was High too! The Sesame was like $10!!! I can get that up the street from my house for bout $5!!!!!!!! But, I needed something to coat my belly for all the drinking that was about to take place! lol!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
